Landscaping Guide For Homeowners

Hello, my name is Justin Malone and on this blog you'll find a lot of useful information about landscaping. When I moved into my newly built home, I didn't even have any grass in my yard, so I had to start from scratch. Before I tackled the project of landscaping my property, I did a large amount of research first. I learned how to plant grass seed, and when the grass started to grow, I researched planting trees. As my yard started taking shape, I planted shrubs and made flower beds. My next landscape project was building a fish pond and I completed it with ease after doing the research. I'm writing this blog as a guide for others who want to do their own landscaping and I hope that it helps you learn how to create a beautiful yard.

Learn How To Turn Tree Limbs Into Customized Drink Coasters

Having the limbs of your trees trimmed regularly by a company like Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc is important to prevent the limbs from becoming a danger to yourself, your home, or your vehicles if a storm occurs. When the limbs are trimmed, it can be hard to know what to do with the ones that are removed from the trees. A great option is to turn the tree limbs into drink coasters that you can proudly display in your home. Use the following guide to learn how to make drink coasters from old tree limbs.

Cut Your Limbs

Use a chainsaw to cut the limb into half-inch sections. When you cut the limb, the sections will create small rings. You want the rings to be as close to the same size as possible, but slight imperfections will give the coasters more character.

Paint the Coasters

Use acrylic paint and a paintbrush to paint a design or phrase onto the center of the coasters. A stencil can be a great tool to use to give each coaster a uniformed look. A great example is to use the first letter of your last name as a stencil. Place the letter on the center of the coaster and paint inside of the stencil with the paint. Allow the paint to dry for an hour and then flip the coaster over and repeat the process on the other side.

Protect the Coasters

You want the coasters to be able to withstand the condensation that will drip off of the cups that you set on them. If you take the time to apply a protective layer to the coasters, they will last much longer. A great protectant is polyurethane gel. The gel can simply be brushed onto the coasters to protect them. Be sure to apply the gel in thin layers so that you have a smooth finish when you are done.

You can use the limbs to make gifts for your friends and family, as well. Use a stencil that is right for their family and then make the coasters. Stack the coasters on top of one another and then tie a ribbon around them to create a cute gift that anyone would love to receive. Making coasters out of tree limbs is a great way to recycle them, and receiving a custom-made gift will show your loved ones just how important they are to you. It also costs very little to make, so the coasters will save you a ton of money too.
