Landscaping Guide For Homeowners

Hello, my name is Justin Malone and on this blog you'll find a lot of useful information about landscaping. When I moved into my newly built home, I didn't even have any grass in my yard, so I had to start from scratch. Before I tackled the project of landscaping my property, I did a large amount of research first. I learned how to plant grass seed, and when the grass started to grow, I researched planting trees. As my yard started taking shape, I planted shrubs and made flower beds. My next landscape project was building a fish pond and I completed it with ease after doing the research. I'm writing this blog as a guide for others who want to do their own landscaping and I hope that it helps you learn how to create a beautiful yard.

3 Tips For Saving Water When Using Your Sprinkler System

This article will discuss 3 tips for saving water when using your sprinkler system.

Adjust Your Irrigation Clock Regularly

Your irrigation clock is going to be set to water your lawn for certain amounts of time, a certain number of times each day. For example, you may have it set to water your lawn twice a day, and have each station run for 15 minutes. While this may be great when you initially set your irrigation clock, the amount of water that your grass needs is going to vary depending on the season, the current weather trends, etc. Because of this, it is important that you adjust your irrigation clock accordingly. As it gets colder in the fall, you are going to want to cut back your water more and more until you turn it off completely for the winter. You are also going to want to cut back on your watering if it has been raining a lot because you lawn will get a lot of the moisture that it needs from the rain water. Doing these simple things can save a great deal of water over an extended period of time.

Water At Appropriate Times Of Day

When it comes to choosing what time of day to water your lawn, you are going to want to take a couple different things into consideration. These two things are sunshine and wind. The more the sun is shining and the more the wind is blowing, the less water is going to get to your grass. Because of this, you are going to want to water at times when it is least likely to be sunny or windy. This is often going to be late at night and early in the mornings. These are times when the sun isn't up and when the weather is likely going to be the most calm.

Make Sure Your Sprinklers Are Properly Aligned

Another way to save water when using your sprinklers system is to make sure that your sprinklers are properly aligned. Your sprinklers may have never been properly aligned when they were initially installed or, they may have been knocked out of alignment for one reason or another, such as being hit with the lawn mower. In either case, you are going to want to make sure that they are put back into alignment so that each section of the grass is receiving the same amount of water and so that there isn't overlap of some spaces and neglect of others. This will also reduce the amount of water that gets wasted on the sidewalk or other areas that don't need water.
